What Are The Different Types of Hot Sauces?
Whether you’re new to hot sauces or want to try something a little different from what you’re normally used to, here are some of the different types of hot sauces that you can order from our website today:
Vinegar-Based Hot Sauces
Vinegar-based hot sauces are a classic. They’re thin, punchy, and known for their sharp heat that can cut through rich and heavy foods with ease. These types of sauces are typically made with chillies, salt, and vinegar, resulting in zesty flavours with a lingering kick.
Fermented Hot Sauces
Fermented hot sauces are aged over time to develop deeper and more complex flavours. The fermentation process mellows the chilli’s heat and introduces rich, savoury, and tangy notes that you won’t get from fresh sauces. This makes fermented hot sauces perfect for adding depth to dishes like ramen, noodles, and grilled meats.
Fruit-Infused Hot Sauces
Ingredients like mango, pineapple, and peach are often paired with chillies to create a bright and balanced heat. This makes fruit-infused hot sauces great for glazing meats or drizzling over tacos. This type of hot sauce offers the best of all worlds - sweetness, tanginess, and spiciness - all at the same time.
Smoky Hot Sauces
Often made with smoked chillies (such as Chipotle), these types of hot sauces bring a rich, barbecue-like flavour alongside their heat. This makes them the perfect choice for roasted veg, grilled meats, or even adding some more depth to stews and similar dishes.
Super-Hot Sauces
The super-hot sauces are in a league of their own when it comes to heat and are only consumed by the brave. This is because these types of sauces are typically made of the hottest chillies (like Carolina Reaper or Ghost Pepper). When consumed, expect some serious heat that will build up and linger for a while.
What Hot Sauce Brands Are Available?
At Bauce Brothers, we work with a large variety of independent and world-renowned brands from the UK and around the world. Some of the most popular hot sauce brands we stock include:
Hot Ones
Arguably one of the most famous names in the hot sauce world, Hot Ones gained a cult-like following in the hot sauce world through the hit YouTube interview series where celebrities faced increasingly spicier chicken wings.
Their sauces (many of which we have in stock) range from mild to full-on face-melters. So, no matter whether you’re looking for an ultra-hot pepper sauce or a milder and fruitier alternative, we’ve got something for everyone.
Thiccc Sauce
Based out of the UK, Thiccc Sauce is a brand that’s best known for its bold, punchy flavours and playful branding. Their range of hot sauces vary from mild and tangy options to seriously hot bottles that pack a fiery punch.
Whether you’re after a sauce that’s more fruity, smoky, or straight-up hot, the sauces by Thiccc Sauce always guarantee a ton of flavour in every drop.
Lazy Scientist
As part of our chilli sauce collection, you’ll come across the independent, small-batch hot sauce producer, Lazy Scientist. Their hot sauces are best known for their unusual but brilliantly balanced flavour combinations and it’s all thanks to their experimental approach.
Who would have thought that pineapple would go well with turmeric and ginger? Well, Lazy Scientist did and it’s one of their most popular medium-spicy sauces to date.
Queen’s Majesty
Coming straight out of Queen’s, New York, Queen’s Majesty is a small-batch producer of high-quality hot sauces. Their sauces are not only hand-made and taste amazing, but they’re certified kosher, vegan, non-GMO, and gluten-free.
So, if you’re a little bit more picky or want a spicy sauce that is a little bit different, you’ve got to give Queen’s Majesty a try (our favourite is the Jalapeno Tequila & Lime).
Secret Aardvark
A true favourite in the hot sauce world, Secret Aardvark’s sauces are best known for their quirky branding and addictively good recipes.
Their hot sauces actively blend Caribbean and Tex-Mex influences, resulting in bold and punchy flavours that work brilliantly on anything from tacos and burritos to grilled meats and roasted veg.
FAQ
That being said, ingredients can vary between the different hot sauce brands, so it’s always a good idea to check the product description to see the full list of ingredients.
- Before opening, make sure the sauce is stored in a cool and dark place. Also, make sure to keep the sauce away from areas that can get too hot or too cold throughout the day.
- After opening, we recommend that you keep your hot sauce refrigerated to preserve its freshness, prevent spoilage, and keep flavours balanced.
If you don’t know how much heat you can tolerate, it’s always best to start with a milder hot sauce and build up your tolerance over time.
That said, when cooking with hot sauces, it’s important to start small, as some super hot sauces, like the Carolina Reaper by Chilli Mafia, can quickly become too overpowering.
