7 awesome snacks that go well with hot sauce

Hot sauce is the greatest condiment in the universe. It acts as a food enhancer, meal marinade and a way to transform any snack into one you can't stop eating.

Here at Bauce Brothers, we're the number one hot sauce club in the UK, and we consider it our civic duty to research all the delicious foods you can drip, dip or dollop in the UK's finest craft hot sauces.

Looking for snacks to douse in spice? Don't worry – we've got your back. Here are seven of our faves.

1. Nuggets

We are here for the nug life, both chicken and cauliflower. Nugz are the king of the snack food. That crispy, crunchy coating and juicy, tender meat… seriously, we're doing all we can not to drool on our keyboard right now.

If you're into your chilli sauce, chicken nuggets are the perfect companion. Have a bowl of your favourite sauce on the side and dip away to your heart's content.

Vegan? No sweat. Tofu and veggie nuggets pair perfectly with hot sauce too – just make sure your sauce of choice is vegan friendly.

2. Eggs

Can we offer you a nice egg in this trying time?

The mild and creamy taste and texture of eggs pair exceptionally well with hot sauce, especially a super-spicy one with scotch bonnets or habaneros. Plus, as eggs are chock-full of protein, they'll keep you nice and full.

Boiled, scrambled or fried... they're all egg-cellent (geddit?!) choices.

3. Celery

We all know that celery is one of the dullest and most boring things in the world – it's the Coldplay of vegetables. But pair it with a craft hot sauce and… *chefs kiss*.

We don't know what happens, but the celery's crunch and the capsicum's heat just work well together. It's culinary alchemy at its finest!

4. Nuts

You don't have to be nuts to work at Bauce Brothers – but it helps!

Want to take your nuts to the next level? Coat them in olive oil and the hot sauce of your choice (we recommend a chipotle-based sauce for a smoky kick). Then gently toast them in the oven.

Et voila! Super simple spicy nuts! The great thing is, this works with any nuts you have at home.

5. Cheese

One of our favourite snacks right now is the humble halloumi fry. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside… it's a cheesy little piece of heaven.

Halloumi fries and other cheesy treats are delicious paired with hot sauce. All are good, but we recommend a fruity or fermented sauce to cut through the cheese's creaminess.

Heck, you can dunk an entire Babybel or cheese string in your chilli sauce if you like. We do not judge here.

6. Popcorn

When you go to the cinema, you've got the choice of sweet or salty popcorn. You may even ask for sweet AND salty in the same bag. You little rebel.

However, if you want to add a spicy twist to your popped corn, try adding a splash of hot sauce to your bag and giving it a good shake.

The bonus? If you're watching a mushy rom-com, you can claim it's the hot sauce making your eyes water…

7. Fruit

It's the end of the list, and we're finishing off with something sweet!

You may think sweet fruit and hot sauce are like Kim K and Kanye… incompatible. However, many hot sauces do have a fruity base to them.

Tropical fruits like mango, pineapple and papaya are a perfect match for hot sauce. Why not make a fruit salad and add a drizzle of your favourite chilli sauce for a healthy dessert with a hearty kick?
